Faure Requiem
Sunday, March 14th, during the 10:00 am service
Most Requiems from the 19th century were written as full-scale concert pieces, and the
composers often tried to out-do one another in their fiery depictions of hell and the day of
judgment (listen to Verdi's or Berlioz's settings of the "Dies Irae").  Gabriel Faure's Requiem,
however, written in response to his parents' deaths, was presented by him for funeral services at his church in Paris in the 1880's.  In its original version, which the Adult Choir, our soloists, and a small orchestra of musicians from the RPO and Eastman will present on March 14th during the 10:00 am service, Faure's Requiem is an intimate, peace-filled work of consolation and assurance.

Special Fund for Haiti Relief Minimize

We're all shocked by the news and pictures of devastation from the earthquake in Haiti on January 12th.  We understand that the best way to help right now is to donate money to agencies with infrastructures in place to get assistance to where it is most needed.  Episcopal Relief and Development is sending emergency funding to Haiti to help meet critical needs such as food, water, and shelter.  We will collect a special offering for ER & D's Haiti Relief fund this Sunday, January 17th.  Cash can be put in the offering plates, or checks made out to Christ Church with ER & D or Haiti Relief on the memo line.  For more information on ER & D's relief efforts, please click here

About our bell Minimize

Christ Church’s steeple bell will continue to ring throughout the day as it always has.  The vestry has decided to turn it off in the middle of the night out of consideration for our neighbors.

We have had long and thoughtful discussions about this issue for many months, and we believe our decision reflects the teachings of the Christian faith regarding hospitality and being a good neighbor.  The practice of ringing church bells during the day and quieting them at night is followed by the other churches in Pittsford, and most churches around the country, and these facts helped affirm our thinking and our decision.

We have tried our best to follow the tradition of our faith and our own consciences.  We realize that thoughtful, well-meaning people can think differently, and we hope that we can all continue to work together in the Christ Church and Pittsford communities.
